WWE Championship
AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Moving onto the second best match of the show and I find myself perplexed for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, who in the back thought to put the biggest championship match of the night third from last was a good idea. Losing out to a non-title, rest hold-heavy bout between two people who aren’t even on the same brand to continue their own storyline as well. Disgraceful.
I’m also completely lost as to why WWE insist on having two of the greatest and most respected wrestlers in the world fight to a comedy finish with a double count-out. In a ‘No Disqualifications’ match. You know, the one where the rules state you can’t be counted out.
I have to hold back on this one because the match itself was great despite the finish. It wasn’t amazing or anywhere near their Wrestle Kingdom 10 bout in NJPW but they seem to be continuing this feud, for now at least. Fingers crossed, we might eventually get the match we all thought we’d get at WrestleMania 34… one day. Plus that ricocheted chair shot destroyed AJ’s face so props for soldiering on.
