AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens
The odds are stacked against champion Styles in this two-on-one handicap match, a bout created by Daniel Bryan again because of the “careful what you wish for” principle. Failing to understand sarcasm in a Sheldon Cooper-like moment, Bryan took Style’s declaration, “Why don’t you just make it a handicap match?” at face value and booked the match.
The whole program is merely a backdrop to the ongoing war of attrition between Bryan and SmackDown Live commissioner Shane McMahon. Their power struggle has been the theme of the blue brand for several weeks, with McMahon questioning Bryan’s increasingly off-the-wall decision-making, and Bryan critical of Shane’s vendetta against Owen and Zayn. That feud will likely come to a head in some manner at WrestleMania, be it with Bryan lacing up the boots for a no-bumps gimmick match against Shane (akin to Vince McMahon vs. Bret Hart at WrestleMania XXVI), or via representatives to the cause (a’la Vince McMahon and Donald Trump at WrestleMania 23).
The Rumble handicap match is just another piece of the puzzle. One of Shane, Bryan or both will no doubt be involved in the finish, accidentally or intentionally aiding Styles to victory, depending on who it is. Make no mistake, Styles is winning this, especially in light of Owens and Zayn revealing their intentions to be co-champions should they emerge victorious. That is simply not going to happen.
WINNER PREDICTION: AJ Styles
