Former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada has defeated SANADA in the final of the 2019 New Japan Cup and has booked his place in the main event of NJPW’s G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden on April 6th, the night before WrestleMania 35.
Okada was first victorious in the 2013 New Japan Cup, and he has repeated the feat six years later. Okada defeated the likes of Tomohiro Ishii and Michael Elgin on route to the gold.
Okada’s win means that he will be challenging Jay White for his IWGP Heavyweight Champion, a match that is sure to deliver from not only an in-ring perspective but in terms of a story too.
Jay White and Okada were formerly stablemates in CHAOS, but White was successful in ousting Okada from the group. Jay White is now a member of Bullet Club and will be hoping for a repeat of Wrestle Kingdom 13 where he successfully bested his bitter rival.
