Aalyah Mysterio WWE Name Change Update

An update has emerged on the WWE status of Aalyah Mysterio and a potential name change that could be coming up.

It’d been confirmed over the past few weeks that Aalyah Mysterio – daughter of Rey and sister of Dominik – had officially signed with WWE on a developmental deal to train at the Performance Center.

Around a year ago, Rey spoke about how Aalyah had expressed interest in training, but he wanted to make sure she graduated first, and then when she graduated, he started taking her to the PC when he was recovering from his own injuries.

That has now evolved into her signing full-time and joining the NXT roster.

PWInsider reports today that Aalyah is officially listed on the internal WWE Performance Center roster, but in a potentially interesting note, she’s not listed as Aalyah Mysterio but rather as her real name – Aalyah Gutierrez.

Whether that means anything, we’ll have to wait and see, but one would think if she was planned to debut imminently as Aalyah Mysterio, she’d simply be listed under that name.

She may still use the Mysterio name down the line, or, she might want to come up with an entirely separate identity and character like many multi-generational wrestlers have done.

Should Aalyah Mysterio Use A Different Name In WWE?

Lexis King shared a photo earlier this week from the WWE PC with a few other multi-generational talents in Aalyah Mysterio, Marie Malenko, Uriah Connors, Avery Styles and Brooks Jensen.

It’s becoming increasingly rare for WWE talents to use their parents’ names as their own, with a few examples already mentioned in King, Connors and Jensen being the sons of Brian Pillman, Fit Finlay and Bull Buchanan.

Some argue that it allows talents to form their own identities rather than permanently associating themselves with the past, and you look at someone like Bron Breakker – who was originally supposed to be called Rex Steiner – and it’s not like it’s done him any harm, though the other argument is it would have given him more legitimacy right off the bat.

Dominik Mysterio‘s particular career, especially since his 2022 heel turn, has benefitted massively from the direct relationship with his father and the fact it’s always in everyone’s faces that he’s Rey’s son.

Whether that would be the same with Aalyah is very debatable, and you could even play up the story that she wants to use a different name not to disassociate herself from Rey, but to disassociate herself from Dominik.

That could be a good route to go down, especially if she wants to establish herself as more than Dominik’s sister – doing it in a way that is still very much acknowledging they’re related, but specifically saying she doesn’t want to use the same name.
