Adam Copeland (Edge) Reveals When He Knew Sheamus SmackDown Match Was His Last In WWE WWE

Adam Copeland (Edge) made his AEW debut at the end of last Sunday’s WrestleDream pay-per-view event, where he confronted best friend Christian Cage.

Edge’s contract with WWE came to an end at the end of September, with him taking part in his last contracted match with the company in Toronto against Sheamus on the August 18 episode of SmackDown.

WWE presented the match as if it were Edge’s last, and Edge has now revealed when he knew that match was his last in WWE.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Copeland noted that halfway through the match with Sheamus, he thought that match would likely be his last in WWE, and that there was a good chance he retired after the match.

He said:

“Halfway through the match with Sheamus in Toronto, I was thinking, ‘This is probably my last WWE match. I also started thinking, right then, ‘There is a great chance I retire after this.’”

Copeland spoke about the night in Toronto, noting that it was the ‘perfect ending’.

He added:

“The WWE gave me that night, and I’ll hold it with me until I die. I was having so much fun. That was the perfect ending.”

Copeland’s first AEW Dynamite appearance is set for tonight’s (October 4) show.

Copeland will face Luchasaurus in his first match in AEW on the October 10 episode of Dynamite.
