An AEW faction turned on their leader and waged an attack on the top star on tonight’s episode of Dynamite (May 8).

On tonight’s AEW Dynamite Swerve Strickland was attacked from behind a very unlikely trio of foes: his own faction.

After Brian Cage, Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun appeared behind Strickland, seemingly aligning with him to face off against Christian Cage, Killswitch and Nick Wayne, things took a turn.

The Embassy attacked Strickland from behind as the Patriarchy watched on and enjoyed the beatdown of the AEW World Champion.

Swerve Strickland would end the segment having been thrown through the commentary table and lying motionless as the Embassy looked down at him from atop the ring steps.

After the segment, Christian Cage was shown shaking hands with the Young Bucks and noting that it was the beginning of a great partnership.

Also repeated by Tony Schiavone on commentary for added effect, Cage was noted to tell the Bucks that they had a ‘good idea’, alluding to the EVPs being behind encouraging the attack on Swerve.

Elsewhere on tonight’s AEW Dynamite, Orange Cassidy signaled that he could be open to joining a surprising faction.
