AEW Star Breaks Character To Send Heartfelt Message To Kenny Omega AEW

Kenny Omega is out of action indefinitely after being rushed to hospital on December 15, 2023, leading to a diagnosis of diverticulitis.

Details of the seriousness of Omega’s condition were previously reported, with Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer revealing the AEW star was “in a lot of pain”.

Former associate and current antagonist Don Callis recently broke character and posted a heartfelt video to Instagram that can be seen below.

The video is a series of images from across their years together, starting from childhood, to the Oasis song Don’t Look Back in Anger.

Callis had previously revealed how the pair had first met when Omega was just ten years old in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, saying:

“Kenny’s uncle was a guy named The Golden Sheik. He was a wrestler in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was my trainer

“After he had trained me, he was my manager and he introduced me to his nephew, who was a cute little 10-year-old kid.

“The nephew kind of attached himself to us. He followed us around and wanted to be a wrestler.

“The Sheik looked after me very much in a way that is not typical in the wrestling business.

“I tried to mentor Kenny in various areas of his life, including his pro wrestling career. I’ve been there for him and he’s been there for me ever since after The Sheik died in ’07. Really, what we had was each other.”

Chris Jericho addressed Omega’s absence from television on the December 20 episode of AEW Dynamite, stating that plans for the Golden Jets were on hold.

Tony Khan also spoke about Omega during the ROH Final Battle media scrum saying he didn’t “think anybody knew how sick he was”.
