AEW Star Talks Dusty Rhodes Supporting Him In NXT

Dusty Rhodes is one of the most influential stars in wrestling. Not only because of his incredible in-ring career but also for the work he did backstage in NXT.

Now, AEW star Luchasaurus has opened up about Dusty Rhodes supporting him during his time in NXT. Here is the quote from his interview with AEW Unrestricted, courtesy of Fightful:

“[Dusty] was one of my only supporters down there. I was always trying to find a way to put my Master’s Degree stuff in a wrestling context. In promo class with Dusty, you would try different things all the time and he always had me try different ways to pinpoint how to do that and we couldn’t figure it out. A lot of the stuff I do now, and the way I just talk, is just me being myself, which is what he liked. As soon as I became a dinosaur and stopped trying to be a human, my sense of humor became an absurdity kind of thing and we made it work.

I wish he could’ve been there to see that because I think he would’ve loved as soon as I put a mask on. I never would have thought to do this on my own, it just organically happened. Working with him on the promo stuff, it was cool to see it come around a few years later. Everything he taught me just kinda clicked. Without that, it would have been tough for me to dive into something like this.”

Luchasaurus was released by NXT after suffering a severe hip injury. In the years since, he changed his character to his current gimmick. He is now part of Jurassic Express in All Elite Wrestling.
