AEW’s Young Bucks Address Current Relationship With WWE Star Cody Rhodes

The Young Bucks have openly addressed their current relationship with WWE star Cody Rhodes and his success since departing AEW in 2022.

Five years on from teaming together to form AEW, The Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes are in drastically different places professionally than many would have imagined back in 2019.

While Nicholas and Matthew Jackson still hold their titles as EVPs of AEW along with Kenny Omega, Rhodes returned to WWE in 2022 and is now set to main event his second straight WrestleMania.

Given how much their paths diverged, many fans have wondered what kind of relationship Rhodes still has with his former Elite brethren now that he’s back in WWE, the company that motivated AEW’s existence in the first place.

In a new interview with Sports Illustrated, The Bucks discussed their big AEW Tag Team Title match at Revolution against Darby Allin & Sting – The Icon’s final match of his four decade career – a match that also saw Cody Rhodes’ name arise during the build to it.

In a recent promo on Dynamite, Allin gave full credit to The American Nightmare for taking a chance on him in the company – unlike The Bucks, who were more interested in hiring their friends.

In response to Allin’s comments Matt Jackson said:

“AEW will always be our baby, It’s our life’s work. We sought out to change the world, and we did just that. We created a new workplace for so many deserving people.

“Tons of talented individuals received a spotlight that they may have not gotten otherwise. And several people’s careers were taken to new heights because of the sole existence of AEW.

“We’re proud of the things we accomplished with Cody and happy to see him rising to the occasion. We’re all rooting for each other.”

Although Cody Rhodes is no longer a part of AEW, Nick Jackson assured that they will always share a bond from their time working together to form AEW, and if anything his return to WWE has made them grow as friends.

Nick Jackson explained, speaking of their happiness at Rhodes’ post-AEW success:

“Cody is the face of the WWE now, and it’s cool to see because we always knew how much of a star he was.

“The founders of AEW will always have a lifetime bond with each other because we all know what we did for wrestling. We talk every week and in a weird way him leaving made us grow more as friends.”

The Young Bucks’ match with Sting & Darby Allin is one of nine confirmed matches for AEW Revolution on March 3 thus far.
