The first official match was former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada vs. the ‘Villain’ Marty Scurll. The announcement illustrated just what kind of show ALL IN was going to be. This would not be a show where big stars were all crammed onto the card into tag matches that lacked intrigue, but rather an event that dedicated itself to providing its audience with matches they would want to see and had been unable to see previously.
New Japan Pro Wrestling very rarely allows their heavyweights and junior heavyweights to wrestle in singles matches, and as a result, Okada and Scurll had never competed one-on-one. With the restrictions of New Japan not affecting them, ALL IN booked what will almost undoubtedly be an amazing encounter that may never be seen again. Storyline wise, no one has given Scurll any chance at all to beat Okada. Okada commented that Scurll is “short and small” while claiming that “maybe this will be his last match before he goes to 205 Live“. On the “Go-Home-Show” edition of Being the Elite, Scurll cut a fiery promo saying that all his life he was told he had no chance and at ALL IN he would prove everyone wrong again.
