A pair of WWE Hall of Famers say Zelina Vega should have won the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WWE Backlash.
Zelina Vega had the biggest match of her career in a loss to Rhea Ripley with the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line in San Juan, Puerto Rico at WWE Backlash.
After suffering the loss, Vega got very emotional as the sold-out San Juan crowd gave her a rousing standing ovation.
On the latest episode of Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famers Bully Ray and Mark Henry discussed the match and agreed that they both thought Zelina Vega should have won the title. Bully said:
“There are certain times in this business you do things for other reasons beyond just the business,”
“I don’t think Zelina is a better wrestler than Rhea, but if there was ever a moment for Rhea to slip on a banana peel and for [Zelina] to get the one-two-three, it was that night in Puerto Rico, just so we could see that championship around her waist with her family coming in the ring [and] looking up at dad in the heavens.”
“Why not put that championship on her for two days? Why not get her over to the 9/11 memorial to take some pictures … at her dad’s final resting place that she can have forever and ever?”
Henry got emotional on what could have been and both men agreed that such a finish for the match wouldn’t have hurt Rhea Ripley.
