Championship Match Added To Wrestle Kingdom 13

Wrestle Kingdom 13 is scheduled to take place on January 4, 2019, and the RevPro British Heavyweight Championship will be defended at the event. At today’s Revolution Pro event in London, England, Zack Sabre Jr. challenged current champion Tomohiro Ishii for a match at NJPW‘s biggest annual pay-per-view.

Ishii defeated David Starr in London to retain the championship, and after the match Suzuki-Gun ran in and jumped him. Following the beating from El Desperado, Taichi, and Minoru Suzuki, Sabre Jr. stated that he was invoking his rematch clause. Ishii beat Sabre for the title at WrestleCon in April.

Ishii recently defended the RevPro title against Suzuki-Gun leader Minoru Suzuki at Power Struggle. The two had traded the title back and forth over the summer, leading to their blow-off match in Osaka.

This will be the first time the RevPro Championship will be defended at New Japan‘s pinnacle event.

Wrestle Kingdom is New Japan Pro Wrestling‘s biggest show of the year, and it has not been uncommon for other promotions to feature their championships at the event. In recent years the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and the Ring of Honor World Championship have both been defended at the event. Perhaps most notably, Adam Cole won the ROH Title from Kyle O’Reilly at Wrestle Kingdom 11 in 2017.

The updated card for the show is as follows:

  • IWGP Heavyweight Championship – Kenny Omega vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
  • IWGP Intercontinental Championship – Chris Jericho vs. Tetsuya Naito
  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Jay White
  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship – Kushida vs. Taiji Ishimori
  • RevPro British Heavyweight Championship – Tomohiro Ishii vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
  • IWGP Junior Tag Team Championships – El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Bushi & Shingo Takagi vs. Sho & Yoh
