CM Punk has made interesting comments about his next move following his departure from AEW.
On September 2, AEW and Tony Khan announced that they had terminated the contracts of CM Punk with cause.
Punk’s termination came following the investigation into the backstage incident at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium.
On Friday (September 15), CM Punk has made his first public appearance following his AEW exit, resuming his role as a member of the commentary team for Cage Fury Fighting Championships, calling the action for the organization’s 125th card.
There appeared to be at least a slight acknowledgement of the AEW situation, as Punk’s co-host John Morgan said, “We probably have some things to talk about”. He also jokingly said Punk was returning to CFFC “with cause”.
However, Punk simply sarcastically replied: “What is there we could talk about?”.
Later on in the show, Rob Haydak suggested that Punk now has some time on his hands, to which Punk noted that he does have some time on his hands “for the next two months”.
Interestingly, the UFC Fight Pass Twitter account shared this clip, with the video cutting off before Punk said ‘two months’. You can watch the clip below.
It’s worth noting that there has been no confirmation regarding Punk’s non-compete clause, with it being unclear whether or not there even was a non-compete clause attached to his AEW deal and departure.
Either way, Punk’s comments have led to speculation about his potential return to action, with some fans predicting that Punk could return at WWE Survivor Series 2023.
The premium live event will take place in Punk’s hometown of Chicago on November 25, which is over two months away.
WWE President Nick Khan has commented on the possibility of CM Punk making a WWE return, which you can read more about right here.
