Drew McIntyre SHOOTS on Dream WWE Opponents & SummerSlam Goals!

WWE star and current Dolph Ziggler muscle Drew McIntyre was present for a recent WWE conference call where the beefy Scot discussed a few topics, chief among which were his ideal opponents that he’d like to face in the future, as well as what his plans and goals were for the upcoming pay-per-view SummerSlam, and beyond.

The ‘Biggest Event of the Summer’ is currently without a McIntyre match, but when asked about the pay-per-view, he responded explaining that “Phase 1” of his return to the main roster was to ensure the WWE Intercontinental Title stayed in the hands of Dolph Ziggler. Considering the champ is currently booked against Rollins for the show, we could very well see Drew getting involved in some capacity for that match.

With reports floating around that the title match could be changed though, we may very well see McIntyre inserted to make it a Triple Threat, or he could just remain as a perpetual distraction to the challenger from the outside as he was at the previous pay-per-view, Extreme Rules. However, I’m sure WWE management would be keen not to replicate the reaction to that main event match.

When talking about his future, McIntyre was sure to emphasize that “Phase 2” of his return meant gunning for the WWE Universal Championship. On his preferred opponent of Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns or Braun Strowman for that title, he responded with a simple “whichever holds the title.” All of those match-ups seem like mouth-watering prospects, and if the former ‘Chosen One’ was to head towards that main event scene, I for one would not complain about any of these possibilities.

Moving past SummerSlam and the (hopefully) immediate future, there were a handful of names that McIntyre dropped as opponents he would love to face down the line, including Seth Rollins (whom he faced on this week’s Raw), Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and AJ Styles; the latter of which he described as having a “ships in the night” relationship with. Those ships may be kept apart for a little longer as currently, the WWE Champion is on SmackDown and the former WWE Intercontinental Champion is on Raw.

The first three names mentioned are all wrestlers that the Scot could realistically face in the near future but the prospect of AJ Styles vs Drew McIntyre does make me very, very excited. Like, really excited. More excited than I can put into words, and I know words most of the time.
