Former WWE Stars’ AEW Debut Match Confirmed

A pair of former WWE stars’ opponents for their anticipated AEW debut match have now been officially confirmed.

It was announced by AEW yesterday (April 25) that former WWE NXT UK Tag Team Champions the Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) will be making their AEW in-ring debut on this Saturday’s episode of Collision from Jacksonville, FL (April 27).

At the time of the announcement there were no details given regarding who Drake & Gibson would be facing off against, with the former WWE stars laying down a challenge to the AEW locker room.

It turns out we didn’t have too long to wait to find out as it has now been announced via AEW’s official Twitter account that the GYV will be taking on former AEW World Tag Team Champions The Acclaimed in their big debut.

This bout will mark the first time the two teams have squared off with one another.

It’s unclear whether Drake & Gibson’s AEW debut is a one-off or whether there are more plans in store for them in the company.

Since departing WWE at the end of their contracts in October 2023, the GYV have competed both in the United States and back in their native England – most notably making several appearances for TNA Wrestling.
