Former WWE Star Reflects On Frustrations With Failed Gimmick WWE

A former WWE star has recently reflected on his frustrations with his final gimmick in the company prior to his release.

Speaking on the Heated Shenanigans Podcast, Erick Rowan spoke on being handed the gimmick of carrying a around a mysterious cage, something that was frustrating due to the success of his prior run where he was allowed to showcase some more of his personality.

Rowan explained:

“I was upset because I was just coming off a run where I was able to open my mouth, speak, actually have some character.

“They kind of just swept it all underneath my feet… So, in my head that not working was a failure to me.”

Despite Rowan pitching several ideas to do with the cage, it was later revealed to be containing a giant fake spider, and little was done with the entire idea by WWE creative after that.

Prior to holding the cag,e Rowan was in a well-received partnership alongside Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) during his ‘Planet’s Champion’ WWE Championship reign, also later holding the Smackdown Tag Team Championship alongside Bryan.

Rowan was unfortunately released from his WWE contract in April 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic alongside many others on the roster.

Since then however, he has found great success on the indie scene, competing a handful of times in AEW and also venturing successfully into the world of acting.

Rowan’s former tag partner Danielson will be in action at June 25’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view against NJPW’s Kazuchika Okada – to find out the updated card for the event, click this link.
