Former WWE Star Says Signing With AEW Was Never A Conversation

Former WWE Star Says Signing With AEW Was Never A Conversation WWE/AEW

A former WWE star says that signing with All Elite Wrestling was never a conversation.

Erick Redbeard, formerly known as Erick Rowan in WWE, made his AEW debut on the unforgettable Brodie Lee Celebration of Life edition of AEW Dynamite from December 2020.

Redbeard made his return to the company ahead of AEW Revolution 2022 and aligned with PAC and Penta El Zero Miedo of Death Triangle in a trios match against House of Black at the pay-per-view.

The former WWE star would later return again to team up with Danhausen in a loss to Austin and Colten Gunn on the August 12 edition of AEW Rampage.

Speaking with Steve Fall of NBC Sports Boston, the former Erick Rowan was asked whether signing with AEW was ever talked about.

Redbeard answered:

“It was never a conversation. I was doing and pursuing my own things. It was just never a thing, and I didn’t, at that time especially, I didn’t wanna be the guy that distract and always made you remind people of a loss, especially that quickly. With the Dark Order, I wanted nothing to do it. That’s nothing to say that I’m better, no. What I’m saying is, I didn’t want anything to do with it because that’s his legacy. If it’s gonna fizzle out, I want it to fizzle out.”

Erick Redbeard continued on to state that he wanted to leave the memory of Brodie Lee on its own rather than potentially affecting it by working with the company.

He said:

“But he made and created that in such a quick amount of time that he had left, that I want that to be the memory of him, his TNT Championship, his dog collar matches. I want that all to be held up here, and I wanted nothing to do with that. So even if there was a conversation, I wouldn’t have seen myself having a spot there.”

With WWE signing many former stars to return to the promotion, it remains to be seen if Redbeard will eventually come back.

Erick Redbeard’s Wyatt Family leader Bray Wyatt made his WWE return at Extreme Rules on October 8.
