Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER has now hit an impressive WWE title milestone, right at the end of 2022.
GUNTHER has showcased his dominance across multiple WWE brands this year.
After his final NXT UK match aired in January, the former ‘WALTER’ officially moved to the US NXT brand and received his name change.
He was called up to the main roster in April, joining the SmackDown brand on the April 13 episode.
GUNTHER won the Intercontinental Championship in June, defeating Shinsuke Nakamura for the title.
GUNTHER has now held the title for 200 days. He will soon become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in over a decade, surpassing Shinsuke Nakamura’s 201 day reign which ended in 2019.
Before the end of the year, the Austrian star will have held the Intercontinental Championship longer than anyone in a single reign since Cody Rhodes’ 234 day IC Title reign in 2011.
Braun Strowman appears to stand in between GUNTHER and a 234 day reign of his own, with the Monster Among Men recently clashing with the leader of IMPERIUM.
Recent reports have indicated that WWE wants to have GUNTHER face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39.
