JBL has given his first interview since making his return on last night’s (October 17) edition of WWE Raw, along with Baron Corbin.
Corbin was moved to the Raw brand in exchange for Rey Mysterio, who went over to SmackDown on last week’s show after telling Triple H he wanted to quit not just Raw but WWE as a whole.
The former Acolyte is now the manager for Corbin, and coached the former Lone Wolf to a victory over Dolph Ziggler on last night’s episode.
John Bradshaw Layfield gave an interview with WWE on RAW Talk, where he said (speaking in character):
“Me returning has nothing to do with the fact that this is the emergence, the debut of the modern day ‘Wrestling God’. The era of dominance, this man is a cornerstone, this is what you build a company on.
“So this has nothing to do with my return, I came back for one reason and one reason only and that is because this man, this man is here.”
While Corbin has had many gimmicks in the past – including King Corbin, Bum-Ass Corbin and Happy Corbin – his new role as JBL’s mentee may be the key to securing his first WWE World Championship.
Corbin’s repacking is the latest in a list of WWE stars who have been repackaged in some way since Triple H took over WWE creative. For a full list of all WWE name changes in 2022 so far, click here.
