Jon Moxley has been absent from AEW television since October, as he entered an inpatient alcohol treatment program on November 2.
Moxley has not wrestled a match since October 27, when he defeated Preston ’10’ Vance in the AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament.
During his absence from wrestling, Jon Moxley has remained the current GCW World Champion, winning the title from Matt Cardona on September 4, 2021.
GCW held it’s Die 4 This pay-per-view last night (January 1), with the show featuring a Do or Die Rumble match to determine the number one contender for the GCW World Championship ahead of the upcoming Wrld On GCW show at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
The match was won by Homicide, with him now set to challenge Moxley for the title, seemingly at the Hammerstein Ballroom on January 23.
It is important to note that GCW have not officially announced the match, and Moxley’s wellbeing is obviously first and foremost, but it appears that GCW are hopeful that the former AEW World Champion will be available for the show.
Last night’s Die 4 This pay-per-view also saw the GCW debut of WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett, who attacked Effy with his guitar.
