Planned WWE Surprise Called Off Due To Injury

Planned WWE Surprise Called Off Due To Injury WWE

It sounds like an upcoming “surprise” that WWE had planned may have been forced to be called off due to an injury.

On the November 11 edition of SmackDown, WWE set up the men’s WarGames match for Survivor Series, which looks to be the Bloodline (Roman Reigns, the Usos, Solo Sikoa and Sami Zayn) taking on the Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Butch and Ridge Holland), Drew McIntyre, and a fifth partner TBA.

The favorite for the TBA spot would have been Kevin Owens, but it seemed like those hopes may have been dashed at the weekend when Owens picked up an injury working a house show.

Dave Meltzer reported yesterday that Owens suffered a sprained MCL, and in another update, Meltzer has all but confirmed we’ve been robbed of Owens in WarGames.

On today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said:

“I believe he (Owens) was going to be in the WarGames match. That’s not 100% confirmed, but it is certainly the talk, and he was supposed to be in something as a surprise, so it all adds up that it would be the WarGames match…

“If that was the case, this could cost him that.”

So basically, even if WarGames wasn’t the plan for Owens, there was at least some kind of surprise he was pencilled in for, that we may now not get to see.

There hasn’t really been any clear indication who would fill the role of the fifth man on the Brutes’ team for WarGames if it turns out not to be Owens – but we did post a list of eight possible options which you can read at this link.

We’ll keep you updated on any news that emerges regarding Owens’ injury and absence.
