WWE NXT Live Results – March 24, 2021

Hello and welcome to my first live report here on WrestleTalk.com, my name is Connel and I will be your host for 2 hours starting from 8pm EST as we watch NXT! Trips and the boys have actually got quite the show lined up for me, almost as if he knew I was coming. Scheduled for tonight’s episode is:

  • William Regal issues consequences to Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly
  • Io Shirai & Zoey Stark vs Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai
  • Oney Lorcan vs Karrion Kross
  • Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon defend the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships against Aliyah & Mercedes Martinez
  • WALTER vs Drake Maverick
  • LA Knight vs Bronson Reed
  • Jordan Devlin vs Kushida

An injury to Jessi Kamea led to Mercedes taking her place in the tag team title match. Nevertheless, those matches alone should be enough to fill out the entire show without too much padding, so it should be a pretty good show all things considered. Hope you all enjoy the show

Time To Pick My Favourite Child (02:07 GMT)

Regal shouts about how he got the police involved between Cole and O’Reilly, he says he has a solution to this whole situation. It’s a contract that says Kyle and Cole will face off in the co-main event of Takeover night 2. The contract says that NXT will not be held accountable for any injuries the men suffer.

Cole says that Kyle made him realise that Undisputed Era were holding him back. He moans about how Kyle tried to befriend Balor, and calls Kyle an eternal lapdog, a sidekick, but that’s not Adam Cole. Cole says Kyle needs to thank Cole, because without him Kyle wouldn’t have even made it to WWE, let alone be successful. Undisputed Era without Adam Cole is nothing, and Kyle is nothing.

Kyle says that since they came to NXT they became stars, but only one of them became a better person. Kyle says he has to force himself that the Undisputed Era meant nothing, because he will put Cole down for good. Kyle sold his soul for UE and wants it back. He calls Cole an insecure prick who used his best friends. Kyle signs what Adam Cole calls “his death warrant”. Kyle throws the pen at Cole and the security hold them back as they shout at each other.

A fantastic ending to what was overall a very strong episode of NXT, a very nice first show to cover here on the site. Takeover has gone from being kinda filler to being very hype for me after tonight, two nights of what should be stacked wrestling action!

Cruise Control (01:54 GMT)

Devlin is in control of Kushida as we return from the break. We get a graphic announcing that next week we will see Roderick Strong vs Cameron Grimes, both of whom I could have swore were in that exposition dump Regal gave earlier? Oh well, more Cameron Grimes means more happy Connel.

Devlin goes for a Superplex but Escobar walks onto the stage looking dapper. Kushida traps Devlin in an Armbar but Wilde and Mendoza pull him out of the ring. Devlin runs back into the ring and uses Kushida to knock the Legado lackeys off the apron, before rolling him up for the win.

Kushida dives on Wilde and Mendoza after the match, before diving off the stage on them, making way for Escobar to enter the ring and go face to face with the Irish Ace.

OH! They think he’s cute, but they KNOW he’s sexy. Shawn Michaels interrupts the two Cruiserweight champions, yes that Shawn Michaels.

HBShizzle pulls a ladder out from under the ring and slides it between the champions, before pointing at it and leaving. Ladder match it is, that is very fair.

Adam Cole and HBK have a face off in Gorilla before the break. Someone get Kushida back out here so I can borrow his Delorean, because I NEED to see that match!

Kushida vs Jordan Devlin (01:45 GMT)

Shotzi and Ember are ambushed in the hallway by a faceless interviewer, who asks them how it feels to retain. Indi and Candice say that if they want real competition, they should look at them. Shotzi laughs at them and they say they’ll show Candice and Indi “The Way” to the Firepit. LOL DO YOU GET IT??

We get a rundown of the Takeover card. Night 1 is the Gauntlet Eliminator, tag title match, Io vs Raquel and WALTER vs Ciampa. Night 2 is Escobar vs Devlin, Gargano vs the gauntlet winner and Balor vs Kross, presumably with Cole vs O’Reilly being added later tonight. The Irish Ace now makes his way to the ring ahead of his match with Kushida.

Kushida grounds the champion from the get go. A lot of ground based offence so far, which is a bit out of character for the Cruiserweights, but Kushida is so good at it that I’ll let it slide. Just as a type that out, Devlin hits a springboard Moonsault to the outside as we go to the ads.

Women’s Tag Team Titles (01:32 GMT)

Johnny Gargano kicks down the door to Regal’s office and moans about the battle royal, saying he wants more time to know who he is defending against. Mercedes and Aliyah get the jobber entrance before their title match.

Mercedes doing the main body of work for the challengers, her and Aliyah actually hit a pretty cool looking double team move on Shozti. Ember gets the hot tag and fires up the crowd. Powerbomb to Aliyah but the pin is broken up by Mercedes.

Ember hits the Eclipse on Aliyah to retain the titles. Stone has a hissy fit on the outside.

The Million Dollar Man Cameron Grimes sits next to Roddy Strong, he tells him that it doesn’t have to end like this, and that he should let Cameron Grimes buy the intellectual property that the UE owns. Roddy smacks him and walks away.

The Demise of Drake Maverick (01:20 GMT)

Kushida promo. He says that he accepted Devlin’s challenge because he wants a challenge, and that Devlin will regret stepping in with Kushida. Drake gets the jobber entrance ahead of his live massacring.

WALTER hits Maverick with the Golden Bomb and then he locks in a single leg Boston Crab and the match is ended via stoppage. I am not exaggerating. Welp it was quick and relatively painless for Maverick.

Tommaso Ciampa comes to the ring to confront WALTER. Ciampa says it is not WALTER that intrigues him, it is the United Kingdom Championship. Ciampa challenges WALTER to a title match at Takeover, WALTER rejects, but Ciampa slaps him before he is jumped by the Imperium boys. WALTER gets Aichner and Bartel to hold Ciampa in place, before hitting him with a chop and accepting his challenge.

We then cut to Pete Dunne, who reiterates that he is the best technical wrestler in the world, and he will prove it by winning that weird battle royal Regal announced earlier.

So Emotional (01:05)

Kross has Oney in a headlock and tells him that not only does he not regret injuring Burch, he enjoyed it. Oney posts Kross and starts a firey comeback.

Kross cuts Oney off with a big boot and the back elbow for the win.

Kross grabs a mic and says he will address Finn Balor’s actions from last week. Kross says that he was giving respect to a man that doesn’t deserve any, and that he didn’t look like a champion last week. Balor interrupts him and says that last week Kross showed him his weakness. He says that Balor learned to control his emotions, while Kross still fights with emotion, and that in those moments Kross is vulnerable. Balor says that either Kross will master his emotions, or the emotions will master Kross, and Balor will drown Kross because he has no emotion. Something like that. A lot of emotions, but also a lack of emotions.

Regal says that we need to find a challenger for Johnny Gargano at Takeover, he says that there will be a 12 man battle royal next week, with the final six entering into a gauntlet eliminatior the week after. The elimination order in the battle royal determines their entry order into the gauntlet eliminator, where a new competitor will enter every 3 minutes. You are eliminated by pinfall or submission.

…I think I got all of that?

Karrion Up The Khyber (12:52 GMT)

We get a video package highlighting WALTER ahead of his live murdering of Drake Maverick later. Kross and Scarlett make their elaborate entrance.

Oney gets a few moments of underdog offence in, but Kross cuts him off every time. Oney shows fighting spirit as we head into the break.

LA Knight vs Bronson Reed Cont. (12:40 GMT)

We return from the commercial and Knight still has Reed grounded. We get a graphic showing that up next is Oney Lorcan vs Karrion Kross, as Knight remains in control of the Thicc Boi. Reed finally gets back in control, he no sells a knee from LA Knight before nailing his big boy comeback. Bronson nails LA Knight with a splash in the corner before a chokeslam attempted is countered, after a short back and forth exchange, Reed nails the chokeslam and goes up top for the Tsunami Splash. Match has picked up a lot now.

OH. After his attempt to hit the Tsunami is cut off, Bronson sends Knight to the mat, before hitting the Tsunami for the win. I can not say I saw that result coming, but I really like Bronson so I’ll allow it.

Vic Joseph and Wade Barrett give an update on Danny Burch, confirming the title vacaction. We then get confirmation that the new champions will be crowned at Takeover: Stand and Deliver Night One, in a three-way tag team match between Legado Del Fantasma, Grizzled Young Veterans and MSK.

LA Knight vs Bronson Reed (12:30 GMT)

Jordan Devlin cuts a promo about how he is a well rounded, global respected veteran, and how he’s going to beat Kushida, before Bronson Reed makes his entrance.

LA Knight makes his entrance, I like his theme song quite a bit. Reed and Knight start with a face off before the Thicc Boi drops Knight. This match has been a lot slower so far than the women’s tag match, not bad at all, just playing to both guy’s strengths. LA Knight takes control after a springboard shoulder tackle. Knight says his name again and stays in control as we go to the ads.

Women’s Tag Team Action (12:20 GMT)

We start with a video recap of last week’s main event, where believe it or not, the champion and his challenger could not get along, who’d have ever thought?

Adam Cole arrives at the Capital Wrestling Center with two security guards behind him, and checks his name in on the register like a good little employee.

Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez get the jobber entrance and we begin with women’s tag team action, as they face Zoey Stark and the NXT Women’s Champion, Io Shirai.

Raquel starts the match with the upstart Zoey Stark. As expected, she’s in to take the heat from Gonzalez, a couple of hope spots here and there to showcase her ability, but Raquel cuts her off.

Raquel tags in Dakota who hits a double stomp on Stark for a two count. Stark makes the tag to Shirai and the champion takes control. Io uses her impressive athleticism to do the matrix and duck a big boot attempt from Dakota. The champion brings Stark back in, and like clockwork, Dakota tags in Raquel and we go to our first ad break of the episode.

We return to break and Raquel has Zoey in a torture rack, quick double tag and Dakota and Io are now legal. I do appreciate NXT putting two of my favourite women in the ring together for my first live show, match has been pretty fun so far. Io and Zoey hit consecutive diving dropkicks to send the number one contender to the outside. Zoey posts both the heels and Io hits the moonsault to the outside on her challenger. Zoey misses a 450 and is dropped with a chokeslam by Gonzalez. In an impressive feat of strength, Raquel holds Zoey up for a chokeslam while booting Io off the apron, before nailing Stark with her finish for the win.

Io and Raquel are having a face off in the ring, Dakota tries to get the jump on Io but the champion knocks her off the ropes before turning into a big boot from Gonzalez. Raquel nails Io with a chokeslam on the announce table, but the table from Japan does not break as the champion from Japan just lays there on it.

We follow the match with security cam footage of Kyle O’Reilly training, when Adam Cole walks in and calls him a bitch like 20 times, because it is WrestleMania season after all, and they get into a scrap in Kyle’s gym. Back live in the CWC, McKenzie tries to interview Kyle who is dressed like a member of a 90s rock band, but before he can speak Roderick Strong tells him that they need to kick Adam Cole’s ass. Kyle says that there is no “us”, this is just between Kyle and Cole. Roddy and Kyle stare at each other for an awkwardly long time, Strong tells them they can both go to hell.

LA Knight promo about how he’s gonna put his hands on Bronson Reed up next, he says it’s LA Knight’s game. He is wearing a new jacket after Bronson tore his other one last week.

We Are NXT!

A pretty stacked show awaits us, follow along from 8PM ET/Midnight GMT.
