WWE SmackDown Live Results – May 27, 2022

WWE SmackDown Live Results – May 27, 2022 WWE

AEW is the talk of the town right now ahead of Double Or Nothing this Sunday, but WWE is back in action with tonight’s episode of SmackDown on the road to next weekend’s Hell in a Cell.

Here’s what’s been announced for tonight:

  • Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & ??? vs. Sheamus, Ridge Holland & Butch
  • Ronda Rousey vs. Raquel Gonzalez
  • Kevin Owens appears

Follow along below for all the results, updates and reactions to tonight’s show!

The main event

Xavier Woods takes the 10 forearms to the chest from Sheamus. He then gets the frantic forearms from Butch. In comes Holland and Xavier is able to escape. Kofi is in and he’s able to gain control. Drew is in and they all hit the New Day Stomps in the corner. Back in comes Kofi Kingston.

Butch cheats to get the Brawling Brutes back in control. Holland hits an X-Plex and we go to commercial as he and Sheamus pose for the camera. When we get back, Kofi is battling to get to his corner. As he is about to get their, Butch and Holland pull Woods and Drew off the apron. Kofi is unable to make a tag.

Eventually, Drew makes his way back up to the apron and gets the hot tag. After Drew and company take out Butch and Sheamus, Drew hits the Claymore on Holland. Instead of making the cover, he tags in Xavier Woods. Woods hits his big Elbow Drop finish. He makes the cover and Drew Day wins.

Not a bad match. Not an overly exciting one either. After the match, New Day make Drew McIntyre dance in the ring. We got dancing Drew and Shanky tonight. Why do I watch this show again?

I guess that was fun. The show overall didn’t really do much towards advancing us to Hell in a Cell. See you Sunday for Double or Nothing.

It's fight night

We get a hype package about Memorial Day on Monday. The Brawling Brutes are in the ring for a long time while WWE stalls until the main event. Based on the character hes’ playing, it seems dangerous to make Butch stay in the ring that long. They may lose him before the match even starts.

In quite possibly the least shocking of surprises, Drew McIntyre is the mystery partner. Now, as Michael Cole says, it’s The Drew Day. I’m pretty sure Sheamus and crew have been in the ring for at least 10 minutes now. Plus we’re getting a commercial.

WWE has moved to this format where they have one member of the main event match enter the ring and then have a bunch of promos and interviews. It takes forever for the match to even start. If I were in the live crowd, I would be bored to death.

Hey, Ludwig gets to wrestle.

Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser are wrestling Ricochet and Drew Gulak. Ludwig is one chiseled individual. Gulak gets to get beat up again. Ricochet and Gunther appear to be heading to a program.

During the initial stages of the match, Gunther makes Drew break his no fly zone rule. He decide to toss him over the top rope to the floor.

Gunther and Ludwig beat Drew and Ricochet. Drew Gulak took the majority of punishment during the match. Walter managed to cave his chest in. Ludwig then hits his finish for the win. Ludwig just hits a running kick to the chest.

After the match, Gunther kicks Ricochet in the face and then demands Ludwig to kick Drew one more time. Backstage, The Usos and Sami are talking. Sami asks The Usos if he can become an honorary member of The Bloodline. The Usos say yes. They go back in the locker room and leave Sami in the hallway. He’s excited nonetheless.

Kevin Owens is here

Max Du-PRI is here. He’s officially signed. He’s recruiting for Maximum Male Models. Whoohoo.

We’re now getting what is advertised as a segment with Kevin Owens and The KO Show and a member of the Bloodline. Clearly, it is going to be Sami Zayn.

Sami Zayn is, in fact, the guest. They hug and they are together. Kevin Owens sucks up to Sami. Sami says he has been watching and he’s upset about Elias too. Kevin is so happy that someone else recognizes that it’s Elias.

Kevin wants him to come to Raw and help him fight all the liars on Raw. Sami declines. Sami calls him Uce. This causes Kevin to tell Sami he’s a moron and not in the Bloodline.

Sami calls Owens a moron for thinking Elias and Ezekial are the same person. This erupts into the two of them arguing. That was fantastic. I wish SmackDown was just Sami and Kevin every week.

Kevin tells Sami they couldn’t care less about him. Sami is very upset. He leaves Kevin in the ring. Kevin follows and they continue to argue. That was a great segment.

Kevin hits stunners on the ring crew who were taking down the KO Show set.

The Skyscraping, Booty-shaking Shanky

Before the match, Jinder Mahal can’t find Shanky. He’s in the locker room dancing. Speaking of dancing, we cut back to the ring and Los Lotharios are dancing around Samantha Irvin. I wonder what Ricochet thinks about that.

As Shanky and Jinder come down to the ring, Shanky vibes all the way down to the ring. Shanky is now called the Skyscraping Shanky.

During the match, Shanky hit a few big boots. Outside the ring, Angel Garza ripped his pants off in from of Irvin. Shanky took him out. In the ring, Jinder was distracted. Humberto rolled him up and gets the win. After the match, Jinder gets in his face. Shanky tells him to talk to the hand. Shanky’s music plays and he dances for Samantha.

What the heck is going on?

New Day Promo

New Day are entertaining. They are charismatic. Unfortunately, either their content or the way they deliver the content doesn’t end with making you want to see the match more.

They talk about their mystery partner. They didn’t really give much away, but they didn’t really build any suspense either. Promos are supposed to make you more interested and want to stick around. This didn’t.

Los Lotharios are up next.

It's a tag team match playa!

After the break, Nattie and Shayna are taking on Ronda and Raquel. Raquel and Ronda are dominate. Nattie then locks in a Sharpshooter. Ronda gets out of it.

Raquel gets the hot tag. The action breaks down. Eventually, Ronda and Shayna square off. That was a nice little moment.

In the end, Raquel hits the Tejana Bomb for the win. I don’t know if I spelled that right, but I know she hit it right. She is impressive.

Raquel Rodriguez and Ronda Rousey

Raquel Rodriquez is in the ring. She’s getting to face the champ, Ronda Rousey again. This is a championship contender’s match. The fact that she’s getting to face Rousey again has ticked off all the ladies in the back. Shotzi is really upset and gets all the other ladies fired up.

Shayna, Nattie, and Shotzi are planning to come down the ring and interfere in the match. They head out and Shotzi goes to get her helmet. Aliyah locks her in the locker room.

Raquel has Rousey locked in a submission move and there they come. Nattie and Shayna attack and cause a no contest. How exciting. A match that lasted less than two minutes and two people who haven’t been relevant in a long time end the match. WWE should do better with this type of booking. They’ve built no one capable of feeling like a legitimate threat on SmackDown.

The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions

To start off the show tonight, The Usos come down to the ring. Unlike 99% of SmackDowns of the last year, they come down without Roman Reigns. The Usos ask the fans to put the Ones in the sky to honor the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.

The Usos say thank you to the crowd for sticking with them through 12 years of the ups and downs. The crowd starts an Usos chant. Wait for it…

There it is. They say they also realize after 12 years they didn’t need anyone. They didn’t need any of the fans. They only needed each other.

Shinsuke Nakamura comes out and says he and his partner want a match. Nakamura introduces…Riddle. They have the fact that their partners have been injured by the Usos. Looks like we’re getting a match or at least a fight. Riddle and Nakamura chase them off.
