Destruction in Hiroshima is New Japan Pro Wrestling‘s biggest show since the conclusion of the G1 Climax and it is now in the books.
Destruction in Hiroshima largely consisted of tag matches intended to set up the other Destruction cards coming in the next few days. Suzuki-Gun and Los Ingobernables de Japon continued to do battle before their leaders clash in the main event of Destruction in Beppu, and Chaos faced Taguchi Japan as a prelude to Hiroshi Tanahashi’s match with Kazuchika Okada in the main event of Destruction in Kobe.
Destruction in Hiroshima featured a lot good matches that were very entertaining but were nothing that anyone should feel obligated to go out of their way to see, however the main event is definitely worth seeking out. Kenny Omega successfully defended the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Tomohiro Ishii in a great match that did not quite live up to the quality of their G1 Climax match.
The results of Destruction in Hiroshima are as follows:
Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask, and Kushida defeated Roppongi 3K (Rocky Romero, SHO, and YOH)
Good opener for the show, but nothing special. It was a relatively short match, clocking in at just over seven minutes, so there wasn’t a lot that they could do but they did the most with the time they had. Tiger Mask ended up hitting Romero with a Tiger Bomb for a near-fall and a Tiger Suplex for the pin.
Bad Luck Fale defeated Toa Henare
Squash match. This match was under three minutes and Fale took most of the match. Henare didn’t get beat in seconds like he did at the G1 Climax Final but he didn’t put up much of a fight and was pinned after a big lariat. This match you can skip.
Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Lance Archer) defeated Michael Elgin and Ayato Yoshida
Nothing particularly special about this match but it was enjoyable because Smith and Archer are a fantastic tag team, Elgin is very talented and Yoshida has a lot of potential. Yoshida showed a lot of heart in this match, standing up to the much larger heels, but it would be his undoing as the Killer Elite Squad hit him with the Killer Bomb and secured the victory. Look forward to seeing what Yoshida does after his excursion as he has a lot of upside.
