Top NJPW star Zack Sabre Jr. says his upcoming bout with Bryan Danielson is “the most important of his career to date.”
At AEW WrestleDream, Bryan Danielson defeated Zack Sabre Jr. in a widely regarded technical wrestling mat classic.
After standing on opposite sides of an eight-man tag at NJPW New Year’s Dash, Bryan and ZSJ set the stage for a second bout that was announced for NJPW New Beginning in Osaka on February 11.
In a new interview with Tokyo Sports, Zack Sabre Jr. stated that this second match against Danielson is the most important of his career to date. He said:
“It’s no exaggeration to say that it’s the most important match of my career to date.”
“It’s the culmination of my life’s work since I was 14 years old. Losing this match means that my philosophy and life’s work have failed. This match is so important to me.”
Noting that he will only be satisfied if he beats Bryan by submission, ZSJ said:
“That’s why there’s only one outcome. I have to defeat Brian by submission. I have to listen to him give up and make him admit that I’m a better technical wrestler,”
Also announced for New Beginning in Osaka, Will Ospreay and The United Empire will face David Finlay and Bullet Club War Dogs in a 10-Man Steel Cage main event.
Meanwhile, Kazuchika Okada will face Hiroshi Tanahashi in their final NJPW encounter.
