A NJPW star has addressed the future of his tag-team, with the duo set to go their separate ways following a recent loss.

The February 11 NJPW The New Beginning in Osaka show saw Yuya Uemura and Shota Umino unsuccessfully challenge for OSKAR and Yuto-Ice’s IWGP Tag Team Championship.

With both Uemura and Umino set to compete in this year’s New Japan Cup tournament, Uemura has commented on what’s next for the duo.

In an interview with NJPW, Uemura confirmed that he and Shota Umino won’t team together for “a while”, with both pursuing singles division achievements.

Announcing the tag-team’s hiatus, Yuya Uemura said:

“I think it’ll be a little while before we team again.

“We both threw ourselves into the team thing for the last six months but we didn’t get any big results, didn’t win World Tag League and didn’t win the titles.

“So it’s time to take a break and for us both to focus on singles for a while. I don’t know when the next time will be, but if the time is right, then we’ll do it.”

NJPW recently paid tribute to AJ Styles, following the Phenomenal One’s retirement ceremony on the February 23 edition of WWE Raw.
