The real reason behind Samoa Joe vacating the ROH World Television Championship has been revealed by AEW President Tony Khan.
On the November 8 edition of AEW Dynamite, Samoa Joe defeated Keith Lee to retain the ROH TV Championship.
Following the win, Joe announced that he was officially relinquishing the Ring of Honor World Television Championship to fully focus on hunting down MJF and the AEW World Title.
During the ROH Final Battle media call (via F4WOnline), Tony Khan was asked about his decision to have Joe vacate the title instead of losing it in the ring.
Khan stated that he wanted Joe to be a focus for All Elite Wrestling, which has been the case since this decision.
The AEW CEO also said that it would have been a challenge to have Joe defend the ROH TV Title and chase the AEW World Championship at the same time.
The next ROH TV Champion will be determined in a six-way Survival of the Fittest Match at this Friday’s December 15 ROH Final Battle 2023 event.
Samoa Joe will challenge MJF for the AEW World Title on Saturday, December 30 at AEW Worlds End. For the full lineup for the pay-per-view, click here.
