Last night on AEW Dynamite, the show kicked off with the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royale, with MJF and Orange Cassidy remaining as the final two. They will square off next week for the diamond ring.
An interesting tidbit from the battle royale is that Matt Hardy eliminated top babyface Hangman Adam Page, and the massively over John Silver, and this was reportedly intentional from AEW.
Dave Meltzer is reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW had Matt Hardy eliminated two of the most popular stars in AEW last night during the match to try and get him some heat, as there are plans to turn him heel.
Matt Hardy debuted with his Broken character when he joined AEW in March, but the gimmick unfortunately really didn’t work without fans. This may be AEW’s attempt to get Hardy back on track after a poor feud with Sammy Guevara.
At this time, it is unclear when AEW is planning on having Matt Hardy turn heel, and who they are planning on having him turn on. For any potential updates, make sure you stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com.
