Rey Mysterio Reveals How Much Longer He Plans To Wrestle WWE

Rey Mysterio has opened up about his future, revealing how much longer he wants to wrestle for.

The lucha libre legend previously teased his retirement on-screen on several occasions. Outside of the ring, Mysterio has spoken about his son Dominik continuing his legacy.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani for BT Sport, the 47 year-old revealed that he has always said to himself that he’d retire at 50.

Discussing past injuries and surgeries, Mysterio said:

“I’m surprised sometimes at how good I feel just overall with the amount of beatings I’ve taken, the amount of surgeries I’ve had. It’s a little bit over twelve surgeries on my left knee. Right one, knock on wood, is good and intact. Between scopes and cleaning it out and a stretched MCL/PCL, a little bit over twelve surgeries.

“Torn bicep, one surgery. Torn bicep here, my experience with this one is bad. They had to go back and cut me open two more times. My back, knock on wood as well, I’m good. My back has taken a lot of the toll, especially being my size. I’ve taken a beating, but for some reason, god is good with me and has taken care of my back, my neck. It’s just my knee that has been my biggest issue.

“For wrestling, I’ve always heard from others that they just go until they can’t anymore. There’s really no start and end date. You just run through it until you can’t or until you step away to do something else. For me, now that I’m getting closer to my fifties and I see my son wrestling, I tell myself that I want to go three more years and I don’t want to go past fifty. But then I remind myself, what if I feel good. Can you still go another year? As of right now, my date has always been to not go over fifty.”

Mysterio last wrestled on the August 8 edition of WWE Raw, losing to Finn Balor in singles action.
