Rick Boogs has now commented on the injury he suffered during his match on WrestleMania 38 Saturday.
In the opening match of the show, Boogs & Shinsuke Nakamura challenged for The Usos’ SmackDown Tag Team Championship. The match ended following seven minutes of action, shortly after Boogs was injured.
On Instagram, Boogs shared photos from before, during and after the match.
Confirming that he tore his patellar tendon, Boogs wrote:
“From the highest of highs to lowest of lows. Having my beautiful wife with me to experience my first Wrestlemania. Getting the incredible opportunity to open the show! Being able to demonstrate brute strength in front of millions of viewers!”
“Unfortunately, the doctor told me my quad was too strong for the tendon and it was flexing so hard, it ripped the tendon totally off the bone. I’m still incredibly grateful for the experience and for all the love and support. History proves I will come back bigger, better, and stronger. IT’S A MINDSET”
During WrestleMania 38 it was confirmed that Boogs will have to undergo surgery. There is currently no timetable on his return.
The SmackDown Tag Team Championship match was reportedly meant to go around 10 minutes longer than it ultimately did. You can read more about the original plans for the match right here.
