Ring of Honor To Hold Show At Madison Square Garden

Ring of Honor, the independent promotion that catapulted the careers of current WWE superstars such as Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan, and Seth Rollins amongst others, have announced plans to hold a show at the world famous Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The event is set to take place next year and is a major step up for the company who sees an average show attendance of just under 1200 fans, according to recent figures made public by the company.

“We have been scaling in terms of our production quality,” Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. CEO Chris Ripley told Baltimore Business Journal. He credited the promotion’s “very passionate fanbase” as the reason for such a large expansion of their product.

The most interesting part of this announcement actually rests with the venue itself. Madison Square Garden has long been an unofficial home for the Stamford-based wrestling giant WWE, going as far back as the days of Vince McMahon Sr. and the WWF.

But with recent ROH successes and the growth of independent show popularity — the article alludes to Ripley citing September’s All In event as a turning point for such interest — it seems that the Baltimore-based organization is prime to take the steps necessary to compete with larger wrestling companies.

“We have been scaling in terms of our production quality,” Ripley said.

There’s no official word on the date of the event, but as soon as news breaks, WrestleTalk will bring it to you.
