There have been numerous wrestlers and matches that many people believe have had a hand in helping shape the next generation of the wrestling industry.
For many years in the 2010s, WWE NXT was the pioneer in television wrestling for a lot of fans, beginning when the brand began airing on the WWE Network as a developmental show.
One of the earliest classic matches on the brand took place in 2013, when Cesaro headed down to Full Sail to face off against Sami Zayn.
Reflecting on the 10 year anniversary of the match, Sami took to Twitter to praise the bout, believing that it was the day that NXT became ‘a thing’.
He said:
At this risk of sounding dramatic or arrogant, this one match changed the industry. This was the day NXT became ‘a thing.’
Hard to explain the significance/context/landscape at that time, but suffice to say it’s one of my proudest matches, with one of my all-time best opponents.
Sami currently reigns as one half of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions alongside Kevin Owens.
