WrestleVotes is reporting that a member of the NXT roster was slated to debut on the main roster on the New Year’s Day episode of SmackDown alongside Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns and Jey Uso in the main event.
The report does not say which NXT Superstar was going to be called up to the blue brand, but WrestleVotes does state that the wrestler is going to be working tonight’s New Year’s Evil show at the Capitol Wrestling Center.
Just heard an interesting story… NXT talent was slated to be called up to SmackDown last week, as of showtime, was written into the main event segment w/ Reigns, Uso & KO. Said talent is on tonight’s big NXT card so curious to see if it was pushed a week or scrapped altogether.

The following matches have been announced for tonight’s NXT show, which might give us a better idea of which wrestler was supposed to be called up to the main roster last week:
- Finn Balor (c) vs. Kyle O’Reilly – NXT Championship
- Raquel Gonzalez vs. Rhea Ripley – Last Woman Standing Match
- Damian Priest vs. Karrion Kross
- Santos Escobar (c) vs. Gran Metalik – NXT Cruiserweight Championship
The fan theory online is that it was going to be Damian Priest brought up to SmackDown for the main event angle last week. However, there is no confirmation that he is the NXT star who WrestleVotes is alluding to.
Speaking of NXT New Year’s Evil, it appears as if a big advertised match for the show between a former NXT Champion and a popular star was cancelled. You can read more about that by clicking here.
