Shawn Michaels Emotionally Describes Current Working Relationship With Triple H WWE

Shawn Michaels has opened up about his relationship with Triple H, and the respect the two men have for one another.

The relationship between the two men goes back over 25 years, when the two became best friends while working for the then-WWF, being two fifths of the Kliq alongside Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Sean Waltman.

The two formed D-Generation X together alongside Chyna, and later X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws. HHH, Michaels, Road Dogg and X-Pac recently reunited as part of a DX reunion on the October 10 episode of WWE Raw.

In 2022, the two are in very different roles in the company, with Michaels in charge of the NXT brand, while Triple H runs creative on WWE’s main roster following the retirement of Vince McMahon.

Speaking on the WWE After the Bell Podcast, Michaels became emotional when speaking about his relationship with the Game, and how he feels about the concept of paying him back:

“Hunter was there for me at a time in my life when I really needed it, obviously it’s been 25 years since that time, but I guess for me it’s always been how could I pay him back for that?

“For me, that’s what I feel like some of this was, this was a way for me to be there for him and that means a lot to me. I can get emotional, I’m all about the romance of this job. Even [taking over for Vince McMahon] has been pulling that out of him, another side of him that not many people get to see.

“To be able to be there for your friend in the best way you can, it was not easy by any stretch, the situation wasn’t great at all, but it was absolutely not a moment’s hesitation, it wasn’t even difficult to do. Again because of the love, the respect, the care that I have for him.

“I appreciate the pats on the back but my goodness, it was nothing more than what he’s done for me many many years ago. I was just happy to at least put a little dent in what he did for me in hopes that I helped him through a hard time in his life and that’s all that really matters to me.”

Michaels currently acts as Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, and is responsible for both creative and development at NXT.
