Former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho has provided some insight into plans for after this Wednesday’s Blood & Guts match.
Jericho confirmed that this 10-man two-ringed bout inside a cage won’t be the end of the war between the Inner Circle and the Pinnacle, and there’s much more planned beyond this.
Some fans have criticised the idea that a match like Blood & Guts is the first match of the feud rather than the last, while others believe it’s an appropriate way to begin given the story up to now.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Jericho said:
“This is not the end of the story at all, the beginning in a lot of ways and, you know, once again I like to book ahead, it’s more like writing the ideas and then knowing where we’re going. It’s one of the things about wrestling that’s really cool. It’’ almost like connect the dots, because you know you have to hit this dot to do what you wanna do, but then you connect this dot and then this dot and then sometimes the lines aren’t as straight as you originally think. Sometimes there are twists and turns, but when you long-term book at least you know that this dot needs to be hit.
“Blood & Guts was something that, in my original thought, was kinda the end, and then it was moved on to more of the beginning, so you kinda rearrange accordingly. I’m really excited about the ideas and the planning.”
Given that there are 10 men involved, there are so many different combinations of matches that we could end up seeing.
The only ones we’ve really seen up to this point are MJF vs Jericho, Jake Hager vs Wardlow, and Jericho vs Dax Harwood, and the first two of those were before the issue really started.
The Inner Circle and Pinnacle members are doing press ahead of Wednesday’s AEW Blood & Guts match, and in an interview with WrestleTalk, Shawn Spears hinted at legitimate heat between members of the groups.
