Tony Khan On Possibility Of Bryan Danielson Wrestling In NJPW G1 Climax Tournament

AEW President Tony Khan has commented on the possibility of Bryan Danielson competing in the NJPW G1 Climax tournament.

After leaving WWE in 2021, Danielson has stated on multiple occasions that he wants to compete in the prestigious tournament.

While the likes of Wheeler YUTA and Lance Archer have previously wrestled in NJPW tournaments while under contract with AEW, Danielson hasn’t wrestled on a Japanese tour since joining AEW.

Speaking on the In The Kliq podcast, Tony Khan noted that it would be hard to see Danielson off AEW TV for so long, especially as he could become AEW World Champion next month.

Noting that he’d love to see Danielson in the tournament, Khan said:

“To be honest. I think it would be great in many ways, but Bryan Danielson, it’s quite possible, could be AEW World Champion.

“Either way, I mean, I think it’d be hard for him to disappear from the show, especially as the AEW World Champion. I’m not sure he’ll be able to get away from the show that much.

“We’ll have to see what happens here coming out of Revolution with MJF vs. Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship in the 60-Minute Iron Man Match in San Francisco on March 5.”

For those unfamiliar, the NJPW G1 Climax is a round robin tournament that pits NJPW’s top stars against each other in block action.

In previous years, there were two blocks, with every star facing every other competitor in their blocks, and the two group leaders would face off in the finals.

The 2022 edition of the tournament featured 28 wrestlers and 4 blocks, with the point leaders or blocks A & B as well as the leaders for C and D, meeting in semifinal bouts ahead of the finals.

Kazuchika Okada was ultimately victorious, defeating Will Ospreay in last year’s final to earn a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

Okada won his title bout, dethroning Jay White in the show’s main event.

White now appears to have bid farewell to NJPW following his Loser Leaves Japan match loss.
