Kevin Nash has addressed the reaction to Triple H on WWE Raw, which saw fans vocal in their attitude towards the authority figure.

The April 6 episode of WWE Raw saw Triple H and Adam Pearce come to the ring for the contract signing between Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar ahead of their match at WrestleMania 42 on April 19.

The fan reaction was exceptionally hot for both competitors, with Femi and Lesnar brawling in the ring and security struggling to maintain control, but less so for an appearance by Triple H.

Speaking on Kliq This, Kevin Nash has addressed the reaction that Triple H has received, which has also previously seen him booed following John Cena’s final match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Asked if the boos are because “the boss is always the heel”, Kevin Nash pretty much agreed with that assessment, comparing it to the reaction that Adam Pearce gets as WWE Raw general manager, saying:

“I don’t think (Adam) Pearce gets booed because Pearce is playing a part. Paul (Levesque) is the real deal.

“So the thing is, it’s like anything else in life. If somebody comes out and 90% of the people are indifferent to them, and 10% don’t like them… (you hear) the 10% people who boo. Nobody’s going to stand and clap because Paul came out.”

With Triple H serving as the Chief Content Officer, he has recently addressed the challenges that the WWE creative team faces.

Booing The Boss

When it comes to WWE fans booing an authority figure, very much like a star who has done something objectionable on TV, it’s usually a reaction to the character and their actions.

Typically, the reaction is reserved for the heel, or a face who has just turned heel, because they’ve done something to someone that the fans have been cheering. There are exceptions, but typically it’s an anticipated reaction to the story being told, even if some fans will cheer the bad guy.

The situation with Triple H feels different, though. Triple H rarely appears on WWE television, and he’s certainly no longer in the McMahon-Helmsley or Evolution era of storytelling. Now, as was noted on Kliq This, the real-life Paul Levesque is a recognizable management entity, and that appears to be what fans are reacting to.

With the direction of WrestleMania 42 seeming to cause frustration among WWE stars, and other shifts seeing the return of Pat McAfee, to some negativity among the fan base, the live crowd could very well be taking their own annoyance out on the man they see as making the decision.

Triple H isn’t without praise in his time as an executive. Fans and critics spoke highly of his role in WWE NXT as well as his handling of creative following the departure of Vince McMahon. Success, however, can be fleeting, especially in the highly critical work of wrestling fandom.  What once was seen as top tier can rapidly become yesterday’s news, especially as fans look forward to what’s next or what could have been.
