According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Vince McMahon is very high on SmackDown Live star Baron Corbin as a future major player for the company.
This comes after the past week’s report that AJ Styles vs. Baron Corbin vs. Shinsuke Nakamura is being advertised for live events in July, with the match also being advertised as the main event of the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. This also suggests that all three wrestlers will be staying on SmackDown Live in the upcoming Superstar Shake-up, with Corbin moving into the main event scene on the blue brand.
This comes as a slight surprise as it looked like Corbin was about to be pushed as a main event star last summer after he won the Money in the Bank briefcase. After losing his championship match to Jinder Mahal, however, and later staying in the mid-card scene with a short run as United States Champion, it looked like the boat had sailed on Corbin as a main event player in the WWE. With the chairman being a fan of the ‘Lone Wolf’, however, it’s only matter of time before he is back competing at the top of SmackDown Live.
