Vince McMahon Nearly Scrapped Popular WWE Theme Song

Vince McMahon Nearly Scrapped Popular WWE Theme Song WWE

A new interview has revealed that Vince McMahon nearly scrapped a popular WWE theme song.

In 2023, Seth Rollins has seen his popularity skyrocket even further with his theme song becoming WWE fans’ favorite thing to sing when at their events.

Speaking with Logan Paul on the latest episode of the Impaulsive podcast, Rollins discussed Vince McMahon wanting to scrap the popular theme song early on. He said:

“I debuted the song at WrestleMania in 2021, it was in Tampa, it was a half capacity WrestleMania, it was still like ‘we’re back, but we’re not back’.”

“We didn’t even go back to full scale live events until like August of that year but in March we did WrestleMania, outdoors, Tampa let us have half the people, so we did it in Raymond James [Stadium]. Did the song, and when I was putting the song together, I kind of had a vision of what I wanted people to do.”

“When we first put that song out, Vince McMahon was actually, he was just hearing it for the first or second time, he actually took a set of the ‘whoa’s out, he didn’t get the ‘whoa’s.”

“He was like ‘argh, that’s not Seth Rollins, that’s not Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins’. I’m like ‘I’m telling you’ and he’s like ‘no no no, just trust me’. I’m like alright fine, you’ve only been doing this for 80 years, or whatever.”

“He took the ‘whoa’s out, but in the back of my mind I’m like ‘just you wait’. No, they never went back in. The version you hear now is still the Vince version but there’s enough of the ‘whoa’s that it caught on.”

The World Heavyweight Champion continued on to explain when he realized the theme song was catching on, saying:

“So it took a while, because I was a heel, no-one was singing my song, they didn’t care at first, and we weren’t in front of people so it wasn’t until August that the song debuted in front of people, regularly.”

“Then fast forward to 2022-ish, and like it didn’t happen for me, I’m kind of a heel through most of 2022, I worked with [Edge], invaded his home, did all this bad stuff that I shouldn’t do.”

Recalling his feud with Matt Riddle and how it was the first time fans started reacting to him differently, Seth said:

“Eventually, I ended up working with Matt Riddle, and there was this episode of Raw we did at Madison Square Garden, and at the end of the show, Riddle has this match at the end of the show, I come out, and I stomp this man’s head into steel steps, and normally, as a bad guy, this elicits a chorus of boos, because Matt Riddle is a fan favourite.”

“But I stomped this guy’s head into the steps, and I turn around expecting boos, and the crowd is just singing the song, in the Garden, and I was like ‘okay, I think this is going to be a thing’, and sure enough, little by little it just starts picking up, picking up, picking up, picking up and then it turned into it’s own animal to the point where [Logan Paul] couldn’t get a word in edgewise.”

“Did a thing with Finn Balor on Raw a few weeks ago. It’s at the point where people online, the Twitterverse is like ‘it’s annoying. It’s too, we don’t like this. It’s the new What? chant’. And I’m like, come on guys.”

Seth Rollins will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor at WWE SummerSlam on August 5.
