Aaron Rourke, the WWE Evolve Men’s Champion, has been pulled from a Limitless Wrestling event due to a “contractual obligation”.
Signed through the WWE ID program, Aaron Rourke became Evolve Men’s Champion on May 18, defeating Jackson Drake.
With Limitless Wrestling holding their Pine State Pro Wrestling Party event on June 20, it has now been confirmed that Aaron Rourke will not be part of that show.
Addressing the removal of Rourke from the event on Twitter, the announcement stated it was due to a “contractual obligation”, with the post reading:
“𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆:Due to a WWE contractual obligation, Aaron Rourke will no longer be appearing for Limitless Wrestling on June 20th.
“As our wrestlers move up the ranks, this is the risk we run as an independent organization booking contracted talent. (1/2)
The post would be followed by a confirmation that Limitless would continue to use contracted talent, sharing:
“We’ll continue to take those risks to always bring the very best professional wrestling possible to Maine. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. (2/2)”
Rourke was announced as having signed under the WWE ID program back in November 2024, with the star still competing on the independent wrestling scene.
Contractual Obligations & The World Outside Of WWE
It’s not unusual for those signed to a WWE contract to find themselves pulled from an independent appearance, whether it be at a show or convention, and it’s no doubt a staple feature of contracts for many stars.
On occasion, the decision is made as the star is required elsewhere by WWE, but occasionally, the details for the decision are murky at best.
Limitless Wrestling recently confirmed that their shows will feature on the MyAEW streaming service. It has been speculated that this could be a reason for Rourke being removed from the show – with those under WWE Legends contracts previously noting limitations about appearing for other televised wrestling promotions – however it’s worth noting that this has not been confirmed.
The WWE ID program was launched in October 2024 and serves to “provide up-and-coming independent wrestlers a pathway to a potential career in WWE”. With signed stars able to continue to work on the independent wrestling scene, many have found their way onto NXT and WWE Evolve.
For some, there are title reigns, with Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes currently the NXT Tag Team Champions, and Rourke holding the aforementioned WWE Evolve Men’s Championship.
As for the “contractual obligation” that Rourke has to fulfil, more details will no doubt emerge as June 20 approaches.
