The backstage reaction within WWE to Adam Copeland (Edge) leaving the company to join AEW has now been revealed.
Following Copeland’s WWE contract expiring at the end of September, the Rated-R Superstar wasn’t a free agent for very long.
Copeland made his AEW debut in the final moments of the October 1 WrestleDream pay-per-view, confronting his friend and former tag-team partner Christian Cage.
Per Fightful Select, some within WWE said that it became obvious to them early on in the summer that Copeland was going to leave WWE when his contract was up.
The report noted that sources that had worked with Copeland would speak as if it was a fact that he was jumping ship as early as August, before his final WWE match against Sheamus on August 18 was announced.
Fightful stated that sources they spoke with noted that Copeland left WWE on good terms, and would be welcomed back to WWE if he chose to return.
The report ended by noting that the overwhelming consensus was that those within WWE are ‘happy for him’.
