Report: WWE ‘Held Talks’ Over Brock Lesnar WrestleMania 39 Opponent WWE

A report has revealed that WWE held talks over who would face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39 on April 1 & 2.

Recently, Dave Meltzer revealed in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that:

“The only thing we know is that whatever the Lesnar plan was, and it wasn’t Gunther, that is that it changed in the last week or two.”

With Lesnar having been “invited to appear” on the February 27 episode of WWE Raw, he is likely to be answering a WrestleMania challenge from Omos.

The decision to suggest that Omos vs Lesnar may happen at WrestleMania was enough to incense WWE fans on social media.

Following their encounter at Royal Rumble and previous reports, there appears to be quite the appetite for Lesnar vs Gunther.

Now, a report from Give Me Sports has provided further details on the current plans.

According to GiveMeSport, talks of Lesnar vs Gunther did happen in WWE but “didn’t get very far.”

Citing WrestleVotes as their source, GiveMeSport stated that:

“Triple H decided to quickly move into different plans for both men at the biggest show of the year.”

WrestleVotes would further explain:

“I saw the rumours, and I know it was discussed, but it didn’t get very far. It wasn’t ever set in stone.”

GiveMeSports would state that, given Triple H’s thoughts on Gunther, a:

“A [Gunther] match against Lesnar in the future definitely isn’t off the table.”

According to reports, Omos vs Brock Lesnar is very much in the plan for WrestleMania 39 right now, with Gunther likely to be facing Drew McIntyre for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Whilst it remains unconfirmed, GiveMeSports suggests that Sheamus could be added to that championship match.
