WWE Changes Spelling Of Star’s Name

A former WWE star has revealed the company changed the spelling of his ring name when he first made his debut for the company.

Sam Shaw, known in WWE as Dexter Lumis, was released earlier this year for a second time after originally being released back in 2022 before returning just a few months later.

In a new interview, Shaw has explained the process of how he ended up receiving the Dexter Lumis name and the inspiration behind it.

He explained the same process that a number of stars who have come up through NXT have described – that new talent write down a number of first and last names, and then creative/management pick from those names.

On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Shaw said:

“So it was like five names and different combinations, and they sort of pick what they like out of the lot.

“I had Dexter on there, and I had Loomis on there, but I had it L O O M I S, like the doctor from Halloween. Then in Scream, there was the Loomis character as well, Billy Loomis.

“So it was kind of like if I could get away with some sort of spelling in that framework, I’d be really, really happy about that, and it was kind of my ode to the genre and the horror influence.

“So they really liked Dexter Loomis, and I was blown away. I was like, ‘Can they get that?’ Then they changed the spelling to L U M I S. But I was happy. It was great.”

Where Next For The Wyatt Sicks Members

Along with Sam Shaw, all members of the Wyatt Sicks were released by WWE a few months ago, so the question is, what’s next for them?

Nikki Cross, now Nikki Storm, has already made her next move as she and her husband Big Damo (Killian Dain) purchased PROGRESS Wrestling.

Joe Gacy has also resurfaced to a relatively prominent degree, having won the GCW World Championship under his new name Joseph Sawyer, defeating Atticus Cogar at Homecoming weekend.

The other members of the Wyatts – Sam Shaw, Bo Dallas and Erick Rowan – have been quieter, but it looks like Shaw in particular is ready to make his next move.

Rowan may make future appearances for AEW as he did a few years ago prior to returning to WWE, while Dallas could be the biggest name of them all, but has been quiet since being released – if there’s an argument that WWE should have kept any individuals from the Wyatt Sicks, Dallas would be the one.
