With Sheamus departing WWE after almost two decades, one of his closest friends and rivals Drew McIntyre has named the one thing he wishes could have went differently when they worked together.
It has now been six months since we last saw Drew McIntyre wrestle, with his loss to Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania 42 being the last time he was featured on WWE programming.
With his various acting projects now wrapped up it has been reported that Drew will soon be back in WWE, but one name who will not be there to greet him upon his return is Sheamus.
It was confirmed that “The Celtic Warrior” was exiting WWE back in July and his contract eventually expired on October 1.
While many fans are excited to see what Sheamus can do as a free agent for the first time in 20 years, Drew McIntyre still feels that he and his friend have some unfinished business, as they never got the chance to truly dive into their extensive history with an extended feud on WWE TV.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, McIntyre said:
“Sheamus and I have been going at it since before we were both signed. The biggest feud in Europe, the only little television show that existed in Europe at the time, Irish Whip Wrestling. We were the big program. I had a faction, the Foreign Legion, with Pierre Marceau; he was in NXT. I can’t quite remember what his name was there, Marcus Louis maybe? Wade Barrett was my heavy. Right through to coming to America, kind of like the movie, but not at all actually [laughs].
“Then eventually WWE getting the chance to be on screen together, and especially during the pandemic, we had a chance to really have some good matches, and then the Donnybrook when we got the fans back.
“There was one particular match they played the build-up video and showed our entire history together because we have so many pictures from over 20 years of history, and we wanted to tell more of the story. That’s the one thing I wish we got to do. It’s never over til it’s over, of course, but I wish we had a chance to tell that story a little more.”
McIntyre and Sheamus last wrestled against one another in July 2024, when they competed in a three-way Money in the Bank qualifying match alongside Ilja Dragunov – who, like Sheamus also departed WWE this year at the end of his contract.
Dragunov was confirmed to have signed with AEW this past Saturday at WrestleDream, and Sheamus has also been linked to the company since becoming a free agent on October 1, with WrestleVotes reporting that many talent in Tony Khan’s company are in favor of him signing the former four-time WWE World Champion.
McIntyre said that his feud with Sheamus is “never over until its over” but at least for the time being, it seems as if “The Scottish Warrior” may have to wait a while to potentially revisit their rivalry.
