Cody Rhodes hasn’t forgotten the multiple losses to R-Truth that he suffered during his first WWE run and wants to ‘finish the story’.
While Cody Rhodes may be heading to Clash in Italy to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against GUNTHER, he turned his attention to a past feud in recent comments.
As far back as 2010, Rhodes found himself locked in a number of losses to R-Truth on the WWE Live house show circuit, with their rivalry feeding into matches on Raw, SmackDown and Main Event.
It’s clearly still a bone of contention for Rhodes, who last faced R-Truth in singles action with a loss on the February 26 WWE Live Road to WrestleMania house show, discussing his plans to ‘finish the story’ during a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, saying:
“Ron Killings has been ducking me, and I whispered in his ear two weeks ago that I never forget anything. And he made my life a living hell when I was ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes, when I was Stardust. I think he’s got like thirty-some victories on me.
“Finishing the story, the term we have and Michael Cole coined at WWE really wasn’t about winning the WWE Title, it’s about beating Ron, beating Truth. And when I do that, I’ll be complete, I can sleep at night after I beat Truth. I’m very petty.”

Rhodes was able to “finish the story” when it comes to the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, defeating Roman Reigns at the 2024 event, going on to name that as the best moment in his career, saying:
“It has to likely be WrestleMania 40, because capturing the WWE Championship is probably the most real story I could possibly tell in sports entertainment and pro wrestling that blends fact and fiction, because it was the title that my dad never won and was so close to winning. And I really thought it was out of my hands by the time I’d come back to WWE.
“To be able to hold it up and hand it to my mom. It’s also lingering today because everybody who put me on their shoulders and celebrated, almost all of them have turned on me at this point.
“So like all modern WWE spins out of WrestleMania 40 and that has to be the best moment in my career.”

While that moment may be an all-time best moment, Rhodes would also reflect upon one that he would like to revisit, specifically Battleground 2013:
“To be back in that moment would probably be Battleground in Buffalo, New York, because it almost became a second hometown for me.
“That’s the one real rare appearance of my brother, my dad, and I all together. We were middle of the card, there was some question on whether the Buffalo crowd would like the Rhodes family story, and they came alive and brought us to new heights.
“Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins… They’re also all in the ring, so it was fun to share that moment.”

WWE Battleground in 2013 saw Cody Rhodes & Goldust team up against The Shield (Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns). With the victory, the brothers were reinstated in the WWE and Dusty Rhodes, who was at ringside with his sons, retained his role as NXT trainer.
The Remarkable R-Truth
R-Truth has built a stellar career around his comedic persona, often providing comic relief to more serious moments and finding a place in the hearts of many WWE fans from his very presence alone.
A short run in 1999 that came to an end in 2001, Truth would return to WWE in 2008, eventually becoming an institution in the company, as well as a two-time United States Champion, two-time World Tag Team Champion and fifty-four-time 24.7 Champion.
Many fans no doubt have fond memories of moments involving R-Truth, so it was something of a surprise to see him briefly part ways with WWE in June of last year, particularly considering he had faced John Cena prior to his departure.
The split wouldn’t be for long, however, with R-Truth returning at Money in the Bank just a week later, helping Rhodes and Jey Uso defeat Cena and Logan Paul. The returning veteran would adopt a character change, shaving his own hair on WWE Raw, and shifting away from the comedy persona that fans had adored.
Triple H would discuss R-Truth’s departure during Season Two of WWE Unreal, suggesting that contract numbers and communication differences were a contributing factor.
Whatever happened, Truth’s return has seen him back in the hearts of his fellow stars and the fans, with the star currently one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions with Damian Priest.
