Former WWE Star Wins Top Championship

Former WWE Star Wins Top Championship WWE

Nic Nemeth (fka Dolph Ziggler) has won another major championship title during his first year away from WWE.

After getting released by WWE in September 2023, Nemeth hit the ground running after his non-compete clause expired.

Nemeth has wrestled for a number of top promotions this year including TNA Wrestling and NJPW, where he won the IWGP Global Championship during his first match with that promotion.

The former “Dolph Ziggler” has now added another championship to his collection, winning the AAA Mega Championship at Saturday’s AAA TripleMania XXXII: Monterrey event.

Ziggler defeated Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) to win the vacant championship.

The AAA Mega Championship is the top title of Mexican promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. This is the title that Kenny Omega notably held for 765 days from October 2019 to November 2021.

The previous champion, El Hijo Del Vikingo, relinquished the gold in March after undergoing surgery for a torn meniscus and a ruptured ligament.

Nemeth is the second ever IWGP Global Champion, after defeating inaugural champ David Finlay for the gold at February’s NJPW New Beginning in Sapporo show.

He unsuccessfully challenged for the TNA World Championship at the April 20 Rebellion pay-per-view.

Nic Nemeth has explained why he chose not to sign with AEW following his WWE release, which you can read more about right here.
