A WWE higher-up has given a comment on Matt Riddle being released by the company earlier today (Friday, September 22).
Riddle’s release comes a day after many other releases from the company in the wake of the merger with Endeavor/UFC to form TKO.
Fightful Select has provided some more background on Riddle’s release, including a comment from a WWE higher-up.
The higher-up said that Riddle had “burned through too many chances” during his time in the company.
As we mentioned in the initial story, Riddle did have some issues, including sexual assault allegations (from before he joined WWE), failed drug tests that led him to rehab, and the recent incident at LFK International airport where he accused a cop of sexual assault but had himself been reported as being “disorderly”.
Riddle signed with WWE in 2018 as a member of the NXT roster, with his final match coming at the September 4 Raw where he and Drew McIntyre lost to the Viking Raiders.
The storyline looked to be heading in the direction of McIntyre going heel and turning on Riddle.
During his time in WWE, Riddle won the NXT Tag Team Championship alongside Pete Dunne (Butch), the WWE United States Championship, and the Raw Tag Team Championship alongside Randy Orton twice.
Yesterday, WWE released the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Elias, Mustafa Ali, Dana Brooke and Shelton Benjamin among many others. For the full list of WWE releases, click here.
Over 100 WWE employees were also let go in the aftermath of the TKO deal as well.
We’ll keep you posted with any further updates.
