WWE Hall of Famer Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart recently received the major honor of receiving his own star on the Canadian Walk Of Fame.
Hart’s induction had been previously announced to be taking place in 2021, however, it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The five-time WWE champion joined 10 other inductees in being honored in Toronto on May 26, and spoke of his joy at receiving the recognition from his country at the event.
Upon receiving the distinction, Hart said:
“I just want to say how special it was for me to be a wrestling hero or a TV hero for so many Canadians across the country.
“I’ve had such a great journey and such a great ride and I’m really proud of my career.
“I’ve always been especially proud of being from Canada and spreading my name and the goodwill of Canada across the world.
“I’d like to think that I showed everybody that Canadians can be the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.”
Hart becomes the first pro wrestler of over 200 inductees to be officially recognised, however, speaking with POST Wrestling’s Jack Wannan, Hart spoke of his wish for more Canadian wrestlers to receive the same award, saying:
“I don’t think we ever got credit for being great actors, we never got credit for being great athletes.
“And we’re both. We’re great storytellers, we’re great actors, we’re great athletes. We’re amazing artists.
“I think me being on the Walk of Fame is hopefully a start for guys like Edge and other guys to be on the Walk of Fame. (Or) Trish Stratus, another great Canadian wrestler.
“It doesn’t just start or end with Bret Hart.”
Easily one of Hart’s most iconic matches was his Summerslam 1992 clash at Wembley Stadium with the British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith.
With AEW bringing pro wrestling back to Wembley for the first time since that event on August 27 there were hopes that Hart could perhaps make an appearance at the event.
However, according to a recent report this may not ultimately come to fruition, to read the full story follow this link here.
