WWE Star’s New Character Change Inspired By Bret Hart WWE

Drew McIntyre’s heel work was apparently inspired by a historic WWE run by Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart.

It has recently been reported that McIntyre hasn’t yet signed a new deal with WWE, with it being noted that the two parties haven’t agreed on a number and his current deal set to end in April.

McIntyre is set to face Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Crown Jewel on November 4 as he continues his heel run.

Dave Meltzer has weighed in on McIntyre’s recent character evolution, revealing that Bret Hart’s past run is an inspiration.

In the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer claims:

If you watch the McIntyre turn as a heel who is logically right but people don’t like it because of that and think Bret Hart 1997 in the U.S., it’s because that is part of the inspiration of the character.

The year 1997 saw a heel Bret Hart in a feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin that really began when Austin began to taunt The Hitman after the Rattlesnake’s win at the 1996 King of the Ring.

The feud kicked into high gear after the 1997 Royal Rumble, leading to a now-infamous promo that would reveal Vince McMahon as more than an announcer and help lead the company into the WWF Attitude Era.
