The Rock/Cody Rhodes Controversy Causes Massive Impact On WWE Business WWE

Ticket sales for WWE Raw spiked amid the controversy involving Cody Rhodes and plans for The Rock vs Roman Reigns for WrestleMania 40.

On the February 2 episode of WWE SmackDown, The Rock appeared during Cody Rhodes’ segment with Roman Reigns.

Rhodes and The Rock shared a moment before Rhodes left and The People’s Champion and the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion came face to face.

As SmackDown went off the air with the Rock and Reigns face to face, a banner advertised a WrestleMania 40 Kickoff event for February 8 in Las Vegas with the pair set to face off in a segment at the event.

The February 5 episode of WWE Raw saw “Rocky sucks” chants and a “We Want Cody” motif among the assembled fans, but business is good for WWE despite this reaction.

Speaking on the subject of ticket sales on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed:

“Whatever they’re doing, it’s sure working. Because (last night’s Raw) show, just a couple of days ago they had like 7,600 tickets out.

“There were over 10,000 people there. You don’t move that many tickets from Friday to Monday ever.

“So, whatever it is, people are buying this thing. They are paying to see it.

“I think that there’s gonna be a ton of people at T-Mobile on Thursday (for the press event).”

Cody Rhodes asked fans to “trust me” in a post on social media, thanking them for their support.

The Rock has also recently thanked Rhodes and said that he has “tough skin” in reaction to “the passion” of WWE fans.

After Raw though, Rhodes did need to receive some treatment – find out what happened at this link.
